Cheers to One Year
One, whole year with the same company – what an accomplishment as a millennial! I’m only half-joking, as I had cold, hard standards going into the job search when I moved to Denver a year and a half ago. At the time, it was tough being picky, but the universe aligned with my needs when I came across Ten26 Media.
My high standards involved finding a job I truly enjoy at a company I could be with long-term. Sounds like what just about everyone in the world wants, right? We all deserve to enjoy life and to have job security. But many people end up settling for less. Maybe you are one of them.
On top of the basics, I value a healthy work-life balance more than anything, emphasis on ‘healthy.’ I moved to Colorado for the lifestyle, so being able to sustain a good quality of life here is incredibly important to me. If there is one person who gets that, it’s my boss, Jason, the founder of Ten26 Media.
First and foremost, Ten26 has me covered on more than just the ability to do what I love, both at and away from work. Some of my favorite things about working for the company include having a flexible schedule, being selective about the clients we work with, and the positive energy I am greeted with on a daily basis. As you know, the work environment can make or break your experience, and Jason goes above and beyond to set us up for success.
But the best thing about working with Jason is his golden rule: “I don’t care what you do as long as you get your sh*t done.” This work hard, play hard attitude allows me the flexibility to ski on a weekday or take a two-week trip to Asia. In other words, it empowers me to work and live to my best potential. I work hard, and I am free to pursue my passions. That simple, as it should be.
By the way, I’m stoked for my next trip, which is scuba diving in Belize in April.
This golden rule ties into Jason’s value of investing in his employees. By prioritizing our health and happiness, Jason ensures we are able to perform our best work. If there is something he can provide us with to help support optimal performance, whether it’s a mental health day or a new tool, he always has our back. Working on a team where the lines of communication are always open is so refreshing!
I’ve also grown leaps and bounds professionally by working directly with Jason since day one. Developing a close working relationship quickly propelled me into an Account Director role. I don’t know about you, but I don’t know any other 23 year-old directors of anything. Last year, one of the coolest moments for me was mailing my parents my business card, because that was the moment I truly felt like I had “made it.”
Even though we’ve been around since 2012, this is just the start for Ten26 Media. In the past year, we have:
- Strengthened relationships with our hard-working partners, who allow us to do amazing work for our clients.
- Driven impressive results again and again, such as saving one of our clients more than $90k in wasted ad spend over the course of five months.
- Welcomed brilliant, fresh talent to our team.
- Moved offices three times, each time to a bigger and better spot. We’re now located on the 17th floor of the Wells Fargo Center in downtown Denver, an iconic building with a history to match.
From daily stand ups that take 45 minutes because there is so much good stuff to share (some of it a little off topic) to the espresso machine that costs more than a car, walking into the office each morning is a delight. In fact, I’ve never once dreaded coming into work. Not even during monthly reporting. (Always having good things to share with our clients helps.)
Between my coworkers and my clients, I’m challenged to be “on” every single day of my life, and it could not be more fun or exhilarating.
Reflecting back on my year, here are some of the most important things I’ve learned:
- Broad match keywords are not the enemy.
- It’s all about transparency.
- Measure twice, cut once.
- Don’t trust Google.
- Just because you’re busy doesn’t mean you’re being productive.
Needless to say, I’m thrilled to be kicking off another year of full send at Ten26 Media. Stay tuned!
